Bedminster Night Surgery - Bristol Nights host roundtable to discuss the high street after dark

March 7, 2024

Bristol Nights host roundtable with local businesses to discuss Bedminster Town Centre after dark, and the future aspirations for the area.

Bristol City Council are exploring ways to enliven and diversify Bedminster Town Centre to make it more attractive as an evening and night time destination for leisure, meeting friends, dining out and enjoying culture.

As part of this, Bristol Nights are carrying out a ‘night surgery’ on 5th March 2024 and will be speaking to night time businesses in the area to share their experiences of Bedminster at night, and offer their thoughts and aspirations for its future.

Where is Bedminster Town Centre?

Bedminster Town Centre includes East Street, Cannon Street, part of North St and Bedminster Parade.

What are we doing?

Bristol City Council are exploring ways to enliven and diversify the high street to make it more attractive as an evening and night time destination for leisure, meeting friends, dining out and enjoying culture.

As part of this, Bristol Nights are carrying out a ‘Night Surgery’ on 5th March 2024 and will be discussing Bedminster Town Centre after dark. We have invited businesses in the area to share their thoughts and aspirations for the future of Bedminster, with a specific focus on East Street.

What is a Night Surgery?

A night surgery is a focused review and workshop on site with local stakeholders and external consultants with expertise in research, planning and design for 6pm-6am uses. The night surgery includes a roundtable with council officers, local business and community groups, and a 'walkabout' of the area.

The council have enlisted the help of Publica, who regularly help organise engaging and insightful night surgeries in London. The format has proved to be an efficient and effective way to get officers, businesses, and local stakeholders together to discuss a town centre at night. Publica will help facilitate the sessions and will be producing a report that records our discussions, makes recommendations for next steps, and offers inspiration from other towns and high streets around the UK and abroad.

Sounds great, how can I get involved?

The roundtable is Tuesday 5th March, at The Steam Crane from 7pm-8:30pm.

Businesses in the area have been contacted directly, if you would like to take part, please email eastbedminster@bristol.gov.uk
